Katie Powers is an accomplished writer and editor whose multifaceted career includes teaching, journalism and extensive civic engagement. She founded "Book ‘Em" in 2015, a nonprofit collaboration with the Bibb County Sheriff's Office that promotes childhood literacy and positive community-police relations. Under Katie’s leadership, Book ‘Em has distributed over 75,000 new books to children/youth in Macon-Bibb County.
After co-chairing the highly successful Macon-Bibb Forward Together OLOST campaign (passing with over 80% voter approval), Katie joined Southern Majority in 2022. Her meticulous editing, creative contributions and thorough research skills help deliver precise, compelling content for the firm’s clients.
A fifth-generation Maconite, Katie is actively involved in multiple local organizations and community boards. Katie is the current Board Chair for Better Georgia, a progressive 501(c)(4) working to inform and engage voters to create a state that works on behalf of its people. She also currently chairs the board of the Macon Arts Alliance, the official arts agency of Macon-Bibb County. Katie is a proud graduate of the University of Georgia and lives in Macon with her husband, Jeff. They are the proud parents of two adult daughters.
