Amy Morton
Founder & CEO
Amy Morton is a seasoned policy expert and civic organizer with over 25 years of experience advocating for progressive causes at local, state and federal levels. In 2011, she co-founded Better Georgia, transforming it into the state’s largest and most influential progressive nonprofit.
At Southern Majority, Amy has provided strategic guidance to numerous nonprofit organizations, universities, foundations and advocacy groups, including the Couchman Noble Foundation, the Community Foundation of Central Georgia, Visit Macon and Clark Atlanta University.
Her political acumen spans presidential campaigns as well as local races for sheriffs, mayors, state legislators and school boards. Amy has directed successful independent expenditure (IE) campaigns, including pioneering one of Georgia's first effective local IE efforts. Additionally, she has managed multiple campaigns for ballot initiatives, including SPLOST and ESPLOST measures, as well as statewide referenda. In 2021, she led Macon-Bibb County’s Forward Together campaign, passing its first-ever OLOST measure—one of the largest property tax reductions in state history—with over 80% voter approval.
Amy consulted for Sen. Jen Jordan’s groundbreaking victory that ended the Republican supermajority in the Georgia State Senate and supported Democratic House Caucus Chair Tanya Miller’s 2022 win. She has also managed victorious campaigns for Macon Mayor Lester Miller, Mayor Pro Tem Seth Clark and various Macon-Bibb Commissioners and school board members in 2020 and 2024.
In 2022, Amy contributed to electoral wins for Atlanta City Council member Jason Winston, DeKalb County Commissioner Larry Johnson, Sandy Springs City Council member Melody Kelley and Tucker City Council member Virginia Rece. In 2024, she guided successful Georgia State House campaigns for Representatives Tangie Herring, Miriam Paris, Mary Frances Williams, Anissa Jones and Lisa Campbell.
As Chair of Georgia’s WIN List (2009-2011), Amy led the organization to record-breaking fundraising and electoral success, electing 26 of 28 endorsed women to the legislature. Recognized by Campaign and Elections Magazine in 2010 as “the voice of Georgia’s grassroots” and one of Georgia’s ten most influential Democrats, Amy earned the prestigious Viola Ross Napier Trailblazer Award in 2011.
An accomplished fundraiser, Amy has raised over $10 million for progressive candidates and causes. She holds degrees from Mars Hill College and Mercer University, and is also a licensed marriage and family therapist. Amy and her husband, Daryl Morton, reside in Macon, Georgia.
